Where cases end, and how

Every circle is one district court at its own courthouse seat. Its area is the case count; its fill is the class of the disposition share named above the map. Nothing here ranks a court, and nothing here times one.

Producer instrument_courts via GET /instruments/courts/data.json on the console. Dispositions as of 2026-03-31; judge metadata as of 2026-06-15. Each share's denominator is that district's own case count, printed beside it. The three published shares do not sum to 100 — the remainder is a disposition class the producer does not name, so nothing here calls it “other”.

The map needs JavaScript to draw. The figures do not — every one of them is in the bytes below, from the same payload the map reads.

What this map cannot say

There is no district polygon in this estate. Nothing under litan/src or litan/data_local carries a federal district boundary or a county→district crosswalk; the only district geography published anywhere is the seat's own longitude and latitude, which is what every circle here stands on. So this is a graduated-symbol map, not a choropleth — drawing 92 districts as filled territory would have meant inventing 24 states' worth of internal borders. The circuit layer is the choropleth, because a circuit is the union of whole states.

Two of the four figures the venue instrument was specified to carry do not exist in this build. There is no KM band field on any district (km_band / Kaplan-Meier: zero occurrences in the tree) and no funding-disclosure flag. Neither is drawn, and neither is faked.

The withhold does not land where it promises. The venue composite is withheld with the reason that “the tier it bands into is published in its place” — and tier is null for all 92 districts. The substitute the withhold names is itself absent. The rail says so per district.

Duration is withdrawn, not missing. Duration not published — withdrawn for selection bias.

One district has no judgeship count — it renders as the designed withhold in the rail rather than as a zero.
